A 1:1000 dilution of SPC-1271 was sufficient for detection of CD44 in 10 µg of NIH/3T3 cell lysates by ECL immunoblot analysis using Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Membrane
Isoform 10 (epithelial isoform) is expressed by cells of epithelium and highly expressed by carcinomas. Expression is repressed in neuroblastoma cells.
CD44 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein involved in cell-cell interactions, cell adhesion and migration through its affinity for hyaluronic acid and possibly through other parts of the extracellular matrix. Its function is controlled by its posttranslational modifications. Clinically, it is significant as a cell surface marker for some breast and prostate cancer stem cells. It is also an indicative marker for effector-memory T-cells. CD44 has been shown to interact with Fibrin, Selectins and Src.
