A 1:250 dilution of SPC-998 was sufficient for detection of IKKa (pThr179+pSer180) in 10 µg of HeLa cell lysate by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.

IKKa is a protein-serine/threonine kinase. Phosphorylates inhibitors of NF-kappa-B thus leading to the dissociation of the inhibitor/NF-kappa-B complex and ultimately the degradation of the inhibitor. May play a special role in the immune response. Loss of function therefore blunts the NF-kB response. Cells with DNA damage are unable to undergo apoptosis. Oncogenesis may therefore occur indirectly by inhibitting a downstream tumour suppresor (inhibitors of NF-kB).
