Aquaporins selectively conduct water molecules in and out of the cell, while preventing the passage of ions and other solutes. Known as water channels, they are integral membrane pore proteins (1, 2). Aquarporin 1 is a widely expressed water channel, found in the basolateral and apical plasma membranes of the proximal tubes, the descending loop of Henel and in the descending portion of the vasa recta. Additionally it is found in red blood cells, vascular endothelium, gastrointestinal tract, sweat glands and lungs. It is not regulated by vasopressin (3).

Polyclonals and antibodies
Polyclonals can be used for Western blot, immunohistochemistry on frozen slices or parrafin fixed tissues. Rabbit antibodies are very stable and can be stored for several days at room temperature. Anti-human, anti mouse antibodies to highly immunogenic selected peptide sequences are" monoclonal like" since the epitope to which they are directed is less than 35 amino acids long.Rats are used to make rat monoclonal anti mouse antibodies. There are less rat- than mouse clones however. Rats genes from rodents of the genus Rattus norvegicus are often studied in vivo as a model of human genes in Sprague-Dawley or Wistar rats.
